Natural Palm Oil

Natural Red Palm Oil is produced from the fruit of the oil palm, Elaeis guineensis. It is a vegetable oil and therefore does not contain any cholesterol, which is only found in animal or dairy products. Natural Red Palm Oil, made from the fruit, is sometimes confused with Palm Kernel Oil, which is made from the kernel. These are quite different in composition. Palm Kernel Oil has a similar fatty acid breakdown as coconut oil which makes it good oil, yet it is much different than oil made from the fruit. Palm Kernel Oil does not contain the high amounts of antioxidants found in Natural Red Palm Oil.

Natural Red Palm Oil made from the fruit contains about 50% naturally saturated fats  and 50% unsaturated fats. The saturated fats in Natural Red Palm Oil are not the dangerous synthetically hydrogenated types which have received so much attention for their effect on health. The unsaturated fats in Natural Red Palm are predominantly oleic acid, which is the main type of fat in olive oil.  More about Palm Oil.

For many years most of the food people ate, whether it was raw or cooked, came from natural, unprocessed food. Sometimes it was fermented, such as with wine and vinegar or as in breads that use leavening to rise. Nuts and seeds were often times pressed for oils. In Mediterranean countries, the pulp of the olive was used to make precious oil long before the time of Christ. And just like the olive in the Italy, Greece, and other Mediterranean countries, for centuries African palm trees supplied many basic foods from the dates of the date palm in dry, North Africa, to oils from the oil palm in tropical, rainy Africa. For millennia these oil palms have supplied precious, deeply orange oil from the pulp of their fruit. For centuries the oil from this fruit has supported eye function in Africa and other countries. Where natural red palm oil is a part of the African diet, serious vitamin A deficiencies and their related diseases do not exist. For more information on Vitamin A deficiencies please click here.

Our Natural Red Palm Oil comes from Malaysia. Just as the Philippines is considered the "Coconut Capital of the World," Malaysia is considered the "Palm Oil Capital of the World". It is rich in natural carotenoids, tocopherols and tocotrienols. It is a liquid at room temperature, and has a rich bright red color. When solid, it is an orange red color. This rich red color is due to the high content of natural carotenoids. The carotene content is above 500 mg/kg! These carotenoids are mainly beta carotene (275mg/kg) and alpha carotene (175 mg/kg), with smaller amounts of phytoene, lutein and lycopene. Carotenes are also found in other orange foods such as carrots, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin. Lycopene is a more red color and is found in such as watermelon and tomato. Tocopherols and tocotrienols are related powerful antioxidants in the vitamin E family.

Crude Palm Oil is the richest natural source of Tocotrienols. Tocotrienols are not found in other vegetable oils such as soy bean oil, canola oil, rape seed oil and sunflower oil. However, tocotrienols can be found naturally occurring, but in much lesser quantities,  in rice barn, barley, wheat gem and oats.

What are Tocotrienols?
Tocotrienols are members of the Vitamin E family comprising of Tocotrienols and Tocopherols. Tocotrienols differ from the Tocopherols in that they contain three double bonds in the side-chain.  In total, there are four types Tocopherols namely alpha, beta, gamma and delta and four corresponding of Tocotrienols isomers.

Alpha Tocotrienols is 40-60 times more potent than normal Tocopherols making it one of the most powerful lipid soluble anti oxidants available.  The palm Tocotrienols complex contains significant amount of D-Alpha-Tocopherol, D-Alpha-Tocotrienol, D-Gamma-Tocotrienol and D-Delta-Tocotrienol as compared to most other naturally found vitamin E, which are mostly Tocopherols.
