Soaked and Dehydrated Nuts and Seeds

USDA CertOur Soaked and Dehydrated, Nuts and Seeds are USDA Certified Organic by ICS (International Certification Services).

These certified organic nuts and seeds have been soaked as Sally Fallon, the Weston A. Price Foundation and others suggest, and then dehydrated at low temperatures.

Wilderness Family Naturals does their best to procure the highest quality raw materials available. They then soak and dry these nuts and seeds under controlled conditions with commercial equipment in a USDA inspected kitchen. Every batch undergoes testing to insure consistent quality. These organic nuts and seeds are fresh, flavorful and delicious. Extra measures are taken, such as refrigeration and vapor barrier packaging to insure customers receive a premier product.

Almonds

These Certified Organic Almonds are purchased in bulk from a coop of small family farms in California. These farmers take pride in the quality of their product. They are careful to sell us some of the best almonds available in the US and though these almonds have received a burst of steam, as is required by the FDA, they are still "sproutable" and taste delicious. Each nut has been soaked and then dehydrated at low temperatures. Though raw nuts typically contain 4-8% moisture, once this process has been completed, the almonds contain between 1 and 2% moisture, giving them a longer shelf-life and a delicious "crunch" not found in raw almonds.

Brazil Nuts

Predominantly grown in Brazil these nuts are only harvested once a year, in late fall. Because of this, Wilderness Family Naturals does everything possible to ensure these nuts maintain their "just picked" goodness. Since they contain Omega-3 fatty acids, they are always refrigerated, both before and after they are soaked and dehydrated. They are then packaged in a vapor barrier bag which protects the nuts from sunlight and moisture. In addition, each batch is tested to ensure low moisture content, which reduces their propensity towards rancidity.

Cashews

These Certified Organic Cashews come from an organic facility in Vietnam and are shelled with care yielding mostly large, whole kernels, graded as the highest quality available. Though the outside hard shell of the nut experiences a few seconds of steam before it is cracked, the inner nut never experiences heat. These nuts are soaked and dehydrated at our facility in northern Minnesota, which creates a crunchy, deliciously sweet cashew that everyone will absolutely love!

Hazelnuts

These Certified Organic Hazelnuts come to us from a small organic farm in America. They have been soaked and dried at low temperatures and kept refrigerated both before and after this process. Packaged in a vapor barrier bag to protect the nuts from sunlight and moisture, Wilderness Family Naturals does everything possible to ensure these nuts are the highest quality, most delicious hazelnuts available!

Macadamia Nuts

Grown on the side of a mountain on the big island of Hawaii, these delicious nuts are harvested, shelled, soaked and dried right there at the small organic family farm where they grow. This farm is run by a young couple that spent much of their past in the peace corps. They are a lovely family that produces both organic coffee and macadamia nuts. This organic farm has been certified organic for over 40 years! After testing and tasting macadamia nuts from Africa, Asia and many farms in Hawaii we decided that the only macadamia nuts we will carry come from this farm. They simply cannot be matched for quality.

Mixed Nuts

This blend of nuts includes the following Raw, Certified Organic, Soaked and Dried Nuts: Pecans, Almonds, Walnuts, and Cashews. I have always enjoyed a variety of nuts as a snack, so we took the 4 most popular nuts and blended them together for nut lovers like me.

Eating nuts is a good thing. In July 2003, the FDA released a qualified health claim stating "Scientific evidence suggests, but does not prove, that eating 1.5 ounces per day of most nuts, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease."

Pecans

Wilderness Family Naturals actually carries two different types of Pecans. One we call "Native Pecans". They are from "Wild Pecan" trees in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri. The other variety is "Texas Pecans" from a small farm in Texas. Both nuts are soaked and dried at low temperatures. Both are tender and crispy, a delight to snack on!

The Native Pecans are smaller and maybe a bit more flavorful. The trees they come from are very, very old and not planted by people, as far as we know. They grow in a forest area and are actually believed to be "wild" trees.

The Texas Pecans are much larger, and what most people are used to seeing. We purchase the highest grade nut available so you will receive mostly pecan halves and very few broken pieces.

Pistachios

These Certified Organic Pistachios are grown on a small organic farm in northern California. Fresh and delicious, with a beautiful green color, each nut has been soaked and dried at low temperatures. They are crispy and delicious. Perfect for the holidays or any special occasion. Try making a pistachio crusted turkey, fish or chicken!

Pumpkin Seeds

Beautiful, Green Organic Pumpkin seeds that can be eaten for snacks, ground into nut butter, added to salads or blended in smoothies! Each pumpkin seed is soaked and dehydrated, to yield a crispy, delicious treat for you, your family and friends!

Sunflower Seeds

Certified Organic Sunflower Seeds that have been soaked and dried at low temperatures are great in cereal, salads, in bread, or as a snack!

Walnuts

These Certified Organic Walnuts are grown on a small family farm in Washington State that produces both organic walnuts and cherries. These organic walnuts are a select grade made predominantly of full halves without pieces. We keep these nuts refrigerated both before and after soaking to help maintain maximum quality and protect from rancidity. If you have problems finding good tasting walnuts year round, taste these. They are just like a fresh picked walnut. Beware, you may never purchase anywhere else again!
