Allspice (Pimenta Dioica), also known as Jamaica Pepper, Kurundu, Myrtle Pepper Pimiento, and New-spice, is a tropical evergreen with aromatic bark and leaves, and berries among clusters of greenish white flowers that have a pervading scent.
Allspice is a small, scrubby tree, quite similar to the bay laurel in size and form, and grows to heights of up to 40 feet. The berries are harvested before maturity, while they are green. It can be grown outdoors in a tropical climate with normal garden soil and watering. It adapts well to container culture, and can be kept as a houseplant or in a greenhouse.
The plant is dioecious, meaning plants are either male or female. Male and female plants must be kept in the same proximity in order for the fruits to develop.
