Goldenberries are a small yellow-orange fruit that come from a low growing plant that is in the tomato/green pepper/potato family. They are also called Incan berries and in the US: ground cherries. The seeds are often labeled: Chinese Lantern in seed catalogs. These little fruits originate in South American cultures and have been used by them for thousands of years. They have a unique sweet and tart taste and make great snack. Some say the taste is a bit lemony, others say a bit like pineapples, and still others describe it as a citrus-like flavor. Never-the-less, in a 18th cup serving you will receive 12% of the RDI of fiber and 45% of the RDI of vitamin A. Iron, vitamin C and protein is also present, yet these berries are low in fat and do not contain a lot of simple sugars.

Wilderness Family Naturals' Certified Organic Goldenberries are grown in Peru. Only the finest vine-ripened berries are selected for harvest. These 100% pure Goldenberries are certified organic, kosher, gluten-free, vegan, and raw. They do not contain any added sugar or preservatives. Once dried, they are similar in appearance to the traditional raisin, with wrinkled translucent skin.

Storage:

Wilderness Family Naturals offers Organic Goldenberries in a stand-up vapor barrier bag that can be resealed and does not allow light in to degrade the berries and their nutrients. Once opened just purge the air from the bag and reseal it. Keep the bag away from extreme heat. These Goldenberries need no refrigeration for storage less than 6 months. For storage longer than 6 months, refrigeration is recommended.

Suggested Uses:

These unique fruits can be added to smoothies, salads, desserts, muffins, yogurt or cereal. How about a tray of hors d'oeuvres that contains chocolate, cheese and golden berries, served with a little red wine? Goldenberries can be used in homemade trail mixes and energy bars and are wonderful used in chutney, relishes and salsas. The have also commonly used to make jams and glazes. Because of its sweet/tart flavor, golden berries are an excellent substitute for apples in pies and crumbles.
