Most rice cookers purchased at department and discount stores are made of Teflon coated aluminum. There is usually a plastic "roof" with a vent at the top of the cooker, as well.
This rice cooker is for the family that wants stainless steel and glass to touch their food. There is no Teflon or aluminum and the lid is simply made of glass. Since there is no vent at the top, there will be a bit of a "sputter" around the lid that may add a few "sprinkles to your countertop, but I find this better than steam all over my upper cabinets. I love this rice cooker!
