Raw Cacao nibs are the "raw material" for making raw cacao powder and raw cacao butter. They are the raw, fermented cacao bean that has had the outer peeling removed. These cacao nibs have very low microbial counts, and are of premium quality. They can be used like a chocolate chip, though they are firmer and will not melt at the same temperatures. Some people place them in smoothies; some people decorate sandwiches, cakes, cookies and other treats with them. They can be used in granola bars, cereal or trail mixes. They can also be ground with a coffee grinder into a substance called Chocolate Liqueur. Chocolate liqueur is approximately half cocoa butter (fat/oil) and half cocoa powder. Chocolate liqueur is an important ingredient in chocolate manufacture but can also be used to make special drinks, spreads, and delicious treats.
