Champion & Green Star Juicers

There are basically two types of juicers: Centrifugal and Masticating.

Centrifugal Juicers: The Centrifugal juicers grate up the fruit or vegetables and use centrifugal force (that is why they spin around so fast) to fling the pulp and juice to the outside walls of the juicer where it is filtered and flows out. Centrifugal force is felt when you drive around a corner in your car too fast and everybody is pulled towards the far side. The pulp left by juice-making with a centrifugal juicer is typically moist because not all the juice is extracted.

Masticating Juicers: The masticating juicers process and reprocess the fruit by chewing and breaking the cell walls of the vegetables and fruits. (It is called masticating when a goat or cow chews their cud.) This masticating process puts more fiber, enzymes, vitamins, and trace minerals into the juice.

Juice made in a masticating juicer will be more full-bodied and richer in color than juice produced by centrifugal force.

Both the Green Star Juicers and the Champion Juicers are masticating Juicers. The difference is in mastication and extraction of the Juice. The Champion Juicer has a rotating shaft with small "teeth": on it that tear into the vegetable or fruit as it is "fed" into the juicer. These "teeth" also move the fiber and juice down the shaft and with pressure the juice falls through a screen while the fiber continues down the shaft and comes out the front into a bowl. By contrast the Green Star Juicer extracts the juice purely by pressure. The carrot, wheat grass, sprouts, spinach, berries or whatever you "feed" into the juicer will experience pressure that breaks down the cell walls of the fruits and vegetables and releases the juice. The Green Star Juicer produces a juice at ambient temperature and is better for juicing grasses, sprouts and lettuces such as spinach. It takes a little more time to clean, however. We prefer the Champion juicer for large carrots and other root vegetables. They are chewed up faster and with less effort, than in a Green Star Juicer.

Both juicers are manufactured by reputable companies who stand behind their product. Both make excellent juices, and are well build. Our Champion Juicer is now 25 years old and works great. It is wonderful when appliances are built this well!

Champion JuicerThe Champion Juicer is a masticating juicer and when fed vegetables and fruits at the appropriate speed there is no heat or damage to the juice.

This is my favorite juicer to use with carrots and other root vegetables. They feed right in and you quickly and with little effort have some of the most delicious juice you will ever taste.

Champion JuicerWhy Green Star? Green Star juicers have a patented twin gear mechanism that has three innovative features:

  1. Flat surfaces that triturate (press) the food and extrude it (See Twin Gear Technology Below)
  2. All the food passes over a serial magnet surrounded by bio-ceramic materials that enhance the stability of the freshness of the food.
  3. This process occurs at a low speed of 110 RPM, which means that there is virtually no heating or shock to the enzymes of any food passing through these gears.
